Delmar Library In New York
The Bethlehem Public Library located at 451 Delaware Avenue in Delmar New York is one of the best libraries in New York’s capital district. The library was founded in May of 1913 and currently houses over 173,000 books. The library is incredibly bust and loans over 673,000 items annually. The Bethlehem Public Library isn’t just a place to go borrow a book, it’s an integral part of the Delmar, New York community.
The Bethlehem Public Library publishes a news letter monthly that it distributes to everyone locally. This is where many in the community find out about all the activities going on at and sponsored by the library. During the month of October a costume swap is being held on Friday October 20th. Donations of gently used costumes will be accepted from October 1st thru 19th.
Monthly Adult activities include: tai chi, Friday night cinema, fun and games for grown ups, coffee and conversations, paint a pumpkin, sewing machine basics, arm knitting, writing workshops, informational talks, money skills 101, and monthly trivia nights. All activities are open to the public and are free of charge. Prizes for the trivia night are donated by the Friends of Bethlehem Public Library.
The Bethlehem Public Library tries to keep the whole family involved by having activities for teenagers as well. This month the library is sponsoring a class on sewing emoji pillows. The library is also looking for volunteers between 6th and 12th grade that can teach kids chess and play games with them, review books, and to assist with programs. Applications are available at the library for anyone interested.
Kids and their families are at the center of what the Bethlehem Public Library does.
Activities include: Lego building, story time, Pokemon card gamers, coloring, and crafts. Story times are available throughout the week during the morning hours. This encourages young children to become avid readers and is great quality time for the family. During the month of October there is a spooky story writing contest for kids in grades K-5.
Art is a huge focus at the Bethlehem Public Library. Monthly there are exhibits of all forms of art. During September Jim Sande’s paintings and Daniel Breen’s photographs were featured. In the month of October Susan Leath’s photographs and Victor Grant’s photographs will be features in the library.
The Bethlehem Public Library organizes trips for the community. This year there will be a bus trip to New York City on December 2nd. The cost is $45 for members of the Friends of Bethlehem Public Library and $50 for non members. The bus leaves Delmar at 7am and will leave New York City at 6pm.
